Evaluation Question 3

3) What have you learned from your audience feedback?

I've received audience feedback in various ways, such as; survey monkey, teacher feedback, focus groups and public comments left on YouTube videos.
Survey Monkey allowed me to define my audience and helped me to create an image for my band and gave good feedback on the questions I asked about the genre of music I'm working in.

For example these results taught me that my artist should most likely be a girl pop band as most people agreed that they are popular in today's society. The most common colour associated with pop is pink which is stereotypical and that's why it was the most used colour in the ancillary texts and one of the colours of the umbrellas. The mise-en-scene question, informed me that bright colours were a must, so the umbrellas are the outcome of this. There's a suggestion of 'matching clothing' which I tried to accomplish in my first edit with black and white clothing and casual clothing, however I didn't like the black and white image as it didn't really fit the genre. This is why I created two simple looks for my second filming of the video: 'glamorous' and 'comfy but girly' these two outfits allowed me to set two different scenes and backgrounds without any drastic changes. Make-up is another main point from the survey answers so the opening scene contains the band putting on make-up, fitting that stereotype.

The next feedback was from my first edit from the teacher.

This feedback encouraged me to re-shoot my video, the main issue was with the lighting so I had to make sure I had access to a more professional light the second time I shot something. The second draft included a lot more movement from the camera as well as different angles which stepped it up massively from the first edit. My research and planning needed to improve a lot as well which I believe I've done since this feedback was given to me.

The feedback I received from my focus group on my first edit.

What I learned from this feedback was that the improvements I needed to make weren't little things, they were one or two major improvements that needed to be made so it all had to be re filmed which was the best option. The mention of props was a main weakness in the first video so when re-filming came around props were one of the biggest things I paid out for. The balloons, confetti and umbrellas were key in the second edit and made a huge difference to the video and even helped it fit its genre and purpose more clearly and gave the video a more effective feel.

The feedback I received for my second draft ancillary texts

This feedback taught me that the products I have created comply with the pop genre and colour scheme is fitting of its purpose. The vibrancy that's in the ancillary texts are eye-catching, it stands out and would be perfect for my target audience.

Feedback for my third draft of my music video

From this feedback I learned that my music video had improved a lot and that was due to the camera work, props and acting. There was definitely a lot more enthusiasm from the band this time, more actions and movement in the performance scene. In the behind the scenes like shots there's still a large amount of bright colours which consists with the pop genre and the ancillary texts that contain similar colours to those shown in the video. When creating my final edit I decided that filters would be a good idea to possibly improve the aesthetic of the video which proved to be popular with my focus group.

When publishing my edits onto YouTube the public have the option to comment on it. This feedback showed me that even people who aren't taking medias a subject like the video which has encouraged me to stick with final edit I've produced.
